FAQ

  • In our therapeutic relationship, we will work together to discuss your concerns, explore the cycles that may contribute to distress, depression, anxiety, and more, and define goals for our work together. Through our sessions, we will delve into the core emotions that may have been difficult to feel and hold, identify unhelpful patterns of interactions with significant individuals in your life, and frame challenges in attachment terms to uncover triggering vulnerabilities and unmet needs. Our aim is to foster self-acceptance, both within yourself and in your relationships with others, and to provide opportunities for healing and growth through corrective emotional experiences. Together, we'll build a coherent model of self and others, helping you on your path to personal transformation and well-being.

  • It's entirely normal to explore and seek a psychologist who aligns best with your personal objectives for psychotherapy. This process might require some time and could involve trying out talking with a few psychologists until you find a psychotherapist who resonates with you.

We strongly believe that a strong connection between the client and the psychologist is essential to foster a productive therapeutic relationship. This compatibility could become evident after the initial session or may take more time to develop. If the services offered don't quite meet your requirements, you have every right to change your decision whenever you choose. I won’t take it personally if I’m not the right fit and I’m here to offer referrals to alternative resources or to specialists in specific areas.

  • Each individual session is scheduled for 50 minutes, allowing the clinician an additional 10 minutes to complete related tasks such as document the session, research, etc. after the session. Couples sessions can run up to 90 minutes. This extended duration ensures that all participants have ample time to articulate their viewpoints.

  • The duration needed to effectively achieve your psychotherapy journey is influenced by various factors including the specific issue you bring, your individual needs, and your desired outcomes. While some clients achieve their goals in a few sessions (e.g.; 5 to 10), addressing more entrenched matters might take longer to achieve lasting change (e.g.; 10 + sessions).

During your initial session, after we've talked about your aspirations, I can provide a clearer estimate of the timeframe involved.

  • If you find the need to reschedule or cancel an appointment, we kindly request that you do so by cancelling or rescheduling on the booking site (Owl) or reach out to us at your earliest convenience.

To ensure you're not charged for a missed session, we kindly ask for a minimum of 24 hours' notice prior to your scheduled appointment time. No shows or appointments cancelled less than 24-hour hour in advance will incur a cancellation charge of up to the full cost of the session.

Rescheduling an appointment within the same week can be helpful to maintain the momentum of our work together but we understand that life happens and this will not always be possible.

  • Psychological services offered by a Registered Psychologist are typically included in healthcare benefits. It's a good idea to verify your insurance coverage before embarking on your psychotherapy journey, ensuring that the services you receive are eligible for coverage. Ensure that your benefits cover registered provisional psychologists.

  • While we'll delve into this topic extensively during your initial session (and revisit it as necessary in the future), it's reassuring to understand that, as psychologists, we are dedicated to upholding the confidentiality guidelines set forth by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) and the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).

During your first session, I'll explain a few specific limitations to my confidentiality commitment. Furthermore, prior to any information sharing, we'll take care to explicitly outline who might have access to the details you share in your sessions. Your privacy is of utmost importance to us.

  • Psychotherapy, much like many other helping professions, is not a precise science. The ultimate aim of psychotherapy is to alleviate distress and contribute to a healthier lifestyle through personal growth, but just like life itself, it comes without absolute guarantees! The psychotherapy journey often involves tackling challenging personal issues, and the pace can vary from our expectations. Change can sometimes be smooth and rapid, while other times it may unfold gradually, and occasionally, it might even feel frustrating.

That being said, I firmly believe in the potential for change. Our dedication is unwavering in supporting you as you navigate your own transformation, whatever that may involve.

  • Most people know that Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is relatively common among young people, but fewer realise that adults too can be affected. Adults living with ADHD can be impacted in a number of ways, including:

    • Struggling to maintain focus, staying organized and managing time.

    • Impulsivity and inattentiveness associated with ADHD can strain personal relationships, sometimes leading to misunderstandings, conflict.

    • ADHD can contribute to feelings of frustration, low self-esteem, and anxiety.

    • Adults with ADHD may struggle with maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including proper nutrition, exercise, and sleep.

It's important to understand that the impact of ADHD can vary from person to person. It is also important to understand that with support, which may include therapy, medication, and/or coping strategies, many adults with ADHD can reduce or remove the unwanted affects of this disorder.
